*There has been talk for years that “The Color Purple” co-stars Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg had some kind of falling out that left them out of contact for over 20 years.
On Monday’s episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” featuring a 25th reunion of the film’s cast, the two finally get to the bottom of the rift and discover — a rift never really existed.
“Whoopi came up to me and she said, ‘Can I just ask you something?’ She said … ‘Did I do something to you?’ ” Winfrey recalls during The Oprah Show.
“I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ ” Winfrey, 54, explains. “[Whoopi] says, ‘All these years, you know, we’ve been disconnected and I just want to know, did I do something?’ I said, ‘All these years I thought you were mad at me.’ “
Goldberg, who turns 55 Saturday, hasn’t appeared on Winfrey’s show in nearly two decades, but doesn’t recall any fight between the two. “It’s crazy,” she replies.
“It’s crazy,” Winfrey agrees. “So I thought, you think I’m mad at you? I thought you were mad at me,” adding, “What was that?”
Goldberg replies, “Who knows?” [Watch clip here.]
Other cast members also attended the reunion, including (l-r) Desreta Jackson (young Celie), Akosua Busia (Nettie), Rae Dawn Chong (Squeak), Danny Glover (“Mister” Albert Johnson), co-producer Quincy Jones, Margaret Avery (Shug Avery) and Willard E. Pugh (Harpo).
