Video: R. Kelly’s Soul Train Performance Gets Major Props

*R. Kelly really made a comeback on the Soul Train Awards Sunday night.  He was at peak performance as he commanded the stage for the entire beginning of the show.

It appears that time off has been good for his career because the ladies were yelling and applauding louder than anyone else. All of his controversial dealings with under age girls has been forgotten and he’s putting the audience on their feet all over again.

Like Mike Vick, people are really trying to give the brotha a second chance.  (more…)

  1. Absolutely Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!

    • Clarification – The awards show sucked!! Kells opened the show with a True Performance and SANG!!!!! He remixed/changed his song right before our eyes and rocked that sh!t! (old school) Absolutely Fabulous!!! Personal life aside; only those in denial can continue to knock this man. Was glad to see Ron Isley and Anita Baker but the rest of the show was a mess!

  2. that award show was stoopid, everytime u turned around there was a commercial on. and when u looked up, u had missed half the artist performance. what kinda cheap crap award show was this. it was like the sponsors said, “we will sponsor it, but you gonna only get to see 1/4 of the whole performance cause we gotta make sure tide gets it advertisement in” it was like the awards show was a commercial, and the commercials were the award show. wat the he11!!

    • LMAO at huey! I didn’t catch the show man. I guess I won’t ever see it.

    • I was watching (with the volume low) while surfing the internet. I would look up at the show after the commecials and it seemed like I was missing half a performance. After it happened the third time I gave the television my total attention. It was then that I noticed that they were showing only what appeared to be half the singers performance?!?!? In my opinion they could have cut half the number of times they showed that commercial for the “Game”. Whoever doesn’t know it’s coming back on now probably wasn’t a fan. At least get another commercial…the same commercial over and over again was in my opinion ridiculous.

…Yeah Huey, I caught parts of it and I mean that sh1t literally…Every muthafuccer here caught parts of it…WTF kinda award show was that?…It was half-azz!!!…I didn’t see P-Kelly but from what I hear, he did aieght and didn’t get cut off mid-stream…

  3. I wouldn’t compare him to Mike Vick because until the end he denied having done anything wrong. And I don’t get black folk who think Chris Brown should lose his career but still groovin’ to the pedophile.

He is not to be compared to Mike Vick. Apples and Oranges. Dude could care less as long as we buying his crazy sex starved music. He gets no run in my house. But I am sure the ladies love him. Like Chris Rock said, as long as the beat sounds good women will listen to anything. “D*ck in ya mouth D*ck in ya mouth” LOL

  5. As much as I am NOT a fan, his performance during the awards show was good. Personally I just appreciate anyone who sings live these days.

  6. whoever edited the show should have payment stopped on the check!!!!! my 3 year old nephew coulda done better like they let Stevie Wonder edit all by himself in the dark !!!!

    • Editing?!?! much better than last year but still looked like some amateurs. Especially the way they edited the performances of good singers like Eric Benet and Tank in lieu of showing the entire performances of singers who can’t sing, were using Autotune and weren’t even born during Soul Train’s heyday. The youngstas have all the other awards shows i.e. BET Awards, Hip-Hop awards, etc. can’t us “mature” people have anything of our own???

  7. The Soul Train Awards were cool. I was especially happy for Anita Baker finally getting her long overdue props in the game. They didn’t have many commercialized artists per se on the show which was good for a change. I thought R Kelly did an excellent job as well; I like when he isn’t trying to be the “R&B thug”. That persona is tired.

  8. Yep! aside for a “few” of the women (Lalah H. especially!!) who honored Anita Baker?, the best thing ‘on dat awards show waaaaaas….R-ruh!!! And/…they REALLY need “new’ host next time! Those two have stretched their 5 mins.? long enough!!!!
