*Los Angeles – Thousands of kids and their parents were greeted by Santa, some artificial snow and mountains of toys at the recent 8th District Winter Wonderland & Toy Giveaway.
This fun event was held on December 11th, at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza (adjacent to the theatre building) on a beautiful sunny afternoon in Southern California.
Councilmember Bernard C. Parks and his wife Bobbi was the host of this annual event. Toys were organized by age group and gender and distributed by joyful volunteers. Kids were also able to get their face painted and play in the artificial snow and speak with Santa. Santa made an early stop to Southern California for this event.
The event featured some wonderful local entertainment featuring a Michael Jackson impersonator, Greater Crenshaw Bears-exuberant cheerleaders, three dance routines by the Hip Hype Kids, Young Holly rock performing his popular hit “The Kid Rock.” Additional highlights featured Ariana singing an original tune “Shake It,” Kip Academy of Opportunity Band and several colorful cultural dances by the Korean Traditional Dance Company.
The celebration continued inside the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Bradley Court for the “Praise Hymn!-Holiday Gospel Music Celebration.” This event featured Kevin Nash from KJLH 102.3 FM Radio as Master of Ceremonies. The event was held in conjunction with BET’s “Celebration of Gospel-Keeping The Faith” which was held at The Orpheum Theatre that evening.
A rousing celebration of the Holidays season was kicked off by Al Mac Will who reminded the shoppers of the real reason of the season with some original songs from her CD Stand Still which is a wonderful array of Urban Country Gospel Music.
Nicole “Faithful” Franklin is a dynamic and energetic hip-hop worship artist whose excitement about giving Praises were quite evidence as she moved across the stage. She performed material from her CD Taking It Back which featured the following tunes in her set: “Purpose & Destiny,” “Who U Roll’n Wit,” and “Beautiful” and uplifting and inspirational song dedicated to women.
William B and The Greater Los Angeles Cathedral Choir continued to sing Praises and remind people of the real reason for the season.
The Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Kids! Club hosted the Holiday Art Workshop in Center Court. Kids ages 3-13 and their parents made decorative art to celebrate the Holidays.
