George Clinton Vs. Black Eyed Peas

*A dead broke George Clinton is suing pop band The Black Eyed Peas for allegedly stealing a sample of his classic hit, “(Not Just) Knee Deep.”

The suit claims that the song was used in their 2003 hit single “Shut Up” and he’s asking for a whole lot of money.

The multi-million dollar copyright infringement suit was filed on December 10 in the US District Court for the Central District of California and claims that the Peas used an uncleared sample.

According to reports, the suit could turn ugly on multiple fronts. Clinton’s signature was forged in a battle to clear the sample. The funk master claims he never signed any contract and did not agree to any terms for a sample.

Even after being notified, BEP released another version of the song on the deluxe version of ‘The E.N.D.’ without notifying Clinton.

  1. and George, when you get paid and I bet you will, can you tell me if that’s a piece of hotdog between your teeth or tarnished metal?

  2. nightshift, that could be a kissing cavity.

  3. What happened to all of his money he made over the last 50 years! Did he collect from Dr. Dre from the Chronic; that entire album has nothing but beats from George Clinton/Funkadelic/Parliament…..

    • He doesn’t own the rights to most of his hits…He sold them for pay advances.

      • This is true. I saw his story on TV One and this is sad that this man with all these great songs couldn’t manage his career in terms of his financial situation. Had things been right he could very well be one of the richest artist of his time.

        • I watched the TV One Unsung series about him and he got duked easily. He should have zillions of dollars off his collection. Not good to be high all the time and have others making decisions for you.

      • That is what I thought…..but if he doesn’t own the songs……..how can he sue?

  4. So true, Diva007 – getting high all the time unfortunately was part of the hallmark of George’s career. I saw his crew back in the day when I was growing up and he came out onstage and right before he started anything he took a joint out and lit it in front of us to start the show. But loosing your money and control over the product that you created is a tragic!

It’s crazy. The culture is setup so you wouldn’t have a clear mind and make dumb decisions. Drugs, women(men), booze all distractions so you can get screwed over!
