*Rapper Nelly says he and his girlfriend Ashanti are taking their own sweet time with marriage plans – insisting their careers take top priority at the moment.
“I’m not a person that wants to get married more than once. You see what I’m saying? If I’ma do it, I’ma do it and that’s it. You’re dying if you leave me,” he told Rap Up.
Of his relationship with Ashanti, he added: “Right now we’re friends, man. I’m married to my work, my new album ’5.0.’ I’m married to getting things in a certain situation right now and she’s married to getting things in a certain situation. So again, man, we enjoy each other’s company and love it.”
The rapper also believes that celebrity culture puts a lot of pressure on a marriage, and couples should be friends before tying the knot.
“You know, it’s like society puts a pressure on you because they want to see it turn into a certain relationship. You see what I’m saying?,” he explained. “But if that relationship doesn’t work, then society doesn’t take the responsibility of when it doesn’t work. It’s kind of like, ‘Oh, oh, okay, we’ll move on to the next couple we want to see’.
“I think what people don’t understand, is that I think you really have to be friends first. I think that’s the thing.”

I agree with everything Nelly said in the article posted.
well said
Aww, ain’t that sweet. Nelly just wants to be friends and not rush the relationship.
Ok, then, STOP SLEEPING WITH HER.
Men kill me. They have jokes for days.
THA FUCK? You have to be in a relationship/and or married to sleep with someone? According to you, you do. That’s absurd at the least?
Al, if men want the sex they need to make a commitment. Yes, you should be in a relationship to have sex. Sex is intimacy and it generates emotional attachment particularly in women.
Why exploit your “friends?”
For some reason I had the hardest time reading this article.
I can understand where he’s coming from in the article but I’m a bit confused because one minute they were a hot items and then now they are just friends….give me a break!
Synthia if women want the commitment they shouldn’t be so easy! We share equally in the decision to keep sleeping together even when we know marriage is not on the table. If we want to change how we’re being treated, we must change how we behave.
Hey Platinum! Long long time! Nelly is still good looking but in this article he talks like some street corner jigaboo. I’ve heard him in interviews and this doesn’t rep what I heard.
