*Juan Williams told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly that extending unemployment benefits are harmful to the work ethic and basic values of the people receiving payments.
The two were speaking about the fight over the extension of the benefits on Thursday’s “America Live.” Kelly told Williams that a man she knows is staying on unemployment because his jobless benefits bring him more money than a potential job.
“To me it’s crazy because the longer that person is unemployed the more difficult it is then for them to get a job,” Williams said. He continued:
“Because employers, potential employers, will look and see that gee, they’ve been out forever, it doesn’t make sense. And I think that’s partly playing in to this cycle. And at some point then it becomes a matter of you lose your work ethic, your values are impacted, you know, getting up, showing up, dressing well, all that good stuff. So I don’t know that that’s smart.”
Okay, Juan, what world do you live in? Because you have a few people abusing the system you make EVERYONE else suffer. Anyone who has had a real job with decent pay and benefits knows that unemployment is nothing but chump change – a crutch to help through tough times. If they could they would run out their doors with the speed of lightning and get a jobs, but there are no jobs! People always say the that DEMS are big government trying to rule people lives, but the Repugs are always trying to legislate people’s morally… Juan, you know nothing about anyone’s job ethic but your own. I think Mr. Williams’ viewpoint is clouded by the few who abuse the system. But for the majority, that unemployment check is the only bright spot when week after week, they keep getting rejected for a job.
If anything, a person’s work ethic is diminished when he/she keeps hearing ‘no, thanks’ from potential employers. That constant refusal can diminish your spirit and make you less eager in getting out of bed and hitting the pavement. (I should know, ’cause I’ve been there).

For the life of me, I never could understand why he was considered a LIBERAL on those opposing point of view cable talk shows. He ALWAYS argued a CONSERVATIVE point of view. I am in the middle on this one. I was out of work for 9 months and I needed that check to keep my household, take care of my daughter, food etc… But I personally know of a couple of peeps who are NOT even trying to look for a gig and are slummin. I personally however think it is needed in this type of job market.
