*Controversial Mississippi State basketball player Renardo Sidney’s career may have taken a turn for the worse on Thursday night when ESPN cameras caught him fighting a teammate in the stands.
After scoring 19 points in 19 minutes in a win over San Diego, Sidney apparently came to blows with teammate Elgin Bailey while the team was watching the game after their own.
Sidney, who sat out the first game of the tournament in Honolulu after an “outburst” at practice, is seen exchanging punches with Bailey as teammates and an assistant coach look to separate the two in front of a shocked crowd.
While rumors of tension between Sidney and the rest of the team have run rampant throughout the season, Bailey and Sidney are roommates and were considered close friends, according to Clarion-Ledger reporter Brandon Marcello.
“Elgin Bailey once told me he considered [Sidney] his little brother,” Marcello said on ESPN.
Despite his near-dominant performance on the court, Sidney’s off-the-court antics have frustrated Mississippi State fans and endangered his once-promising career since he was in high school.
