*”American Idol” may be going through some changes. According to reports, Timbaland and Alex Da Kid could be working with the contestants in the near future.

Since the show transitioned from Sony to Universal Music Group, “AI” is now in for a shift in music production. Interscope, Geffen and A&M Records chairman Jimmy Lovine will be the driving force behind it all.

“Instead of waiting until season’s end to head to the recording studio, they’ll now work on tracks throughout the season-overseen by Interscope friendly producers like Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Ron Fair and Alex Da Kid,” Billboard’s Cortney Harding reported recently.
Some are speculating whether or not the transition is a good thing and will work, as many of “Idol’s” records are pop-ish. But it has a promising outcome since Timbaland has worked with Pop artists in the past and has definitely demonstrated Hip Hop and Pop can work together successfully. Also, there’s hope in that maybe someone will make a platinum record by working with some of the biggest names in Hip Hop.

“We’re going to be bringing them along,” Lovine said. “Just like we’d bring along any artist that was signed to Interscope. It’s going to be an entire new construct.”
