*It’s the winter that will never end for the Northeastern United States, where a fast-moving winter storm has added more snow and ice to the inches already on the ground.

Another 10 inches are forecast for Washington, D.C., where 300,000 residents have lost power and public schools have been closed for two days. In New York City, 14 inches fell, closing public schools as well.

Traffic is snarled throughout the region and most railroad and bus service has been suspended or reduced. Airports, including New York’s JFK and LaGuardia, closed Thursday morning, with hundreds of flights cancelled.

Philadelphia and Boston were expecting over 11 inches. In Portsmouth, New Hampshire, officials have a five-story snow dump to show for winter months with above-average snowfall.
