*The top news official at National Public radio will leave her post following an investigation into the firing last October of news analyst Juan Williams, according to sources familiar with the matter.

NPR had been set to announce Friday that senior vice president for news Ellen Weiss would step down after a law firm that reviewed her firing of Williams found that the news executive acted precipitously and didn’t follow proper procedures.

Williams subsequently took a full-time job as a commentator for Fox News.
