Today I’ll be sharing a few thoughts about Face Book…yes FB, I never thought the day would come when I’d be looked at, as though I were an alien, for not using FB. I avoided it as long as I could, and then chose to finally surrender to the masses (smile).
I’m Japhena-Kay and my topic for the today is BFFF Best Face Book friend forever…here we go…
So… you think you know me? Wow! Most of us barely know ourselves. And for those of you who have BFFF’s in the 1,000’s; my hat goes off to you! Tell me how you keep up with all your FRIENDS.
It’s interesting how most people will tell you they can’t trust more people than they have fingers, and if they’re lucky they’ll include toes. Yet it’s almost a contest to see who can accumulate the most friends. Why…is it because it’s easier to communicate via computer than face to face? Is it that many don’t have the confidence to say in person what they can transmit via Face Book or texting? Is it not wanting to be left out…everyone else is doing it so I’d better jump on the band wagon or everyone will have 1,000’s of friends and I’ll be out of the, so called, “loop!” Or do you simply need it for business networking; if so then are you actually friends with these people or do you need them to advance your own agenda? Maybe it’s the easiest way to gain popularity, something you’ve wanted all your life and now it’s your chance?
Is it to be nosey and have the opportunity to infiltrate someone’s personal life, just for the sake of knowing their personal business, so you can share, and discuss it with others? Or what is even considered personal these days? We put everything out there for the world to see, but that seems to be the mode of survival today.
Imagine having to wait to get home from work or a business trip to check your answering machine and return phones calls. Then you sit down, write and deliver hand scripted letters to the post office to send across country, and that doesn’t include wanting to send pictures that have to be sent to the little KODAK HUT for developing, remember those?…I’ll have your film processed in 3 to 4 days and ready for pick up! NO THANKS…talk about antiquated!
Maybe you’re lonely and FB is almost like an ongoing Sitcom that makes you feel included. Or maybe you have actually found the best possible way to stay in contact with your friends and family in this fast paced world of 2010!…
The reasons and areas of fulfillment are endless and different for everyone.
FB… really ask yourself what’s so intriguing about it, how do you benefit, and why is it so important that EVERYONE be friends…or maybe the definition of FRIEND should be reevaluated.
You have my profile but do you really know me? My joys, my sorrows, how I’m really feeling; It’s hard enough for us to show our true selves to those who we are REALLY close too. So what does it really mean to be a FB friend?
At night when the lights go off and the computer is shut down–if you ever shut it down…and you are all alone with your thoughts, and wanting to talk, laugh or even cry…how many BFFF’s will you really trust to confide in and give you the comfort you need? Because it has so much to offer and entertain you, if you’re not careful, it can cause you to isolate yourself from the real world.
Don’t miss understand me…I think FB can be great! I’ve been excited to reconnect with old friends old and connect with new. Just make sure you connect with yourself. Because with all of the great things about FB it is just that…a BOOK OF FACES…and as in REAL life…those faces are usually masking what someone doesn’t want you to see, while creating and presenting everything they want you to believe.
