*Joan Rivers may have stepped out of line when she called First Lady Michelle Obama Blackie-O… Yeah she said it.
But she didn’t say it … at least publicly … when she wanted to.
She said she left the joke by the wayside in her stand-up comedy routine because she feared she’d be called a racist.
We learned this when she was on the Howard Stern radio show. She said, “We used to have Jackie O now we have Blackie O!”
Rivers then attempted to make up for the seemingly questionable comment saying:
“I thought it was a funny complimentary joke when she first came (to the White House),” the 77-year-old comedienne told Stern. “I think it’s an adorable joke… I thought it was a compliment!”
However, everyone was not as impressed. Robyn Quivers laughed a little, then proceeded to question the comedienne about her real motive.
“Where’s the compliment in that? I’m looking and looking, I’m trying to find it,” Quivers asked Joan.
“They said you can’t say that,” Joan admitted.

Well now! a kudo to Robin for calling Joan out on a tasteless joke. Joan may have thought it was cute BUT!!! no the Blackie O reference was so not funny it was just a way for Joan to make her racial slur on the sly in the form of a supposed joke. I usually like Joan’s humor on the Fashion Police but I will view her a bit differently from now on.
Yeah, BabyCakes, it was out of line. I will have to be careful with Joan moving forward. I routinely like her, but this right here is a huge mess!

Robin was still laughing, I too usually run with Joan, I’m dating myself here, but I used to watch her on the Ed Sullivan show…she was like a white Wendy Wms. I hope she treads lightly, ’cause she know the effects of running off at the lip. She’s lost many a jobs for it. It got her kicked off as being Johnny Carson’s next in line.
How LONG did it take her to think of this “clever” remark? All that plastic surgery must be squeezing her brain.
Perhaps Joan became jealous & vindictive of Mrs. Obama’s natural beauty channeling another first lady, Jackie O! Joan probably tried dressing like Jackie and it didn’t work.
Who cares, she’s old! Nobody cares, an attempt at humor. We made all kinds of jokes about Bush.
Why am I not surprised that Robyn laughed with her “I’m so happy to be working for Howard Stern” ass!! Joan would’ve done herself a favor by keeping that shit to herself. I’m not easily offended, but what about this was funny? Robin laughed at first, but this didn’t even warrant a snicker. I’m sure that comedians toss out jokes all the time and never see the light of day, and she could’ve done the same with this one and just let it go. But she tried to be slick. She was probably disappointed that she couldn’t use it (clearly she liked it a lot) and tried to slip it in thru the Howard-anything goes-Stern Show. Massive FAIL, Joan.
FYI…She has a new TV show on WE called “Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?”. Boycott because of racist name calling is due.
How could this possibly bother Quivers when she is constantly laughing at every degrading thing Howard say’s about black people.
There are many other ways of complimenting the First Lady without resorting to this.
I laughed at first but really it is inappropriate, but then again some of the best jokes are inappropriate.
Funny to me. Who cares about this anyway. She got one foot in the grave. Stop being so sensitive geez..
