In January, Ja Rule said that his album “The Renaissance Project,” would be released before he starts his prison sentence.

Born Jeffrey Atkins, the rap star was nominated for a 2002 best rap album Grammy Award for “Pain is Love.” His movie credits include the 2001 film “The Fast and the Furious” and 2003’s “Scary Movie 3.”
