Coming from a city that is not Los Angeles or New York, many people would think you could not make it in the music industry. But YuLanda can testify that this statement is wrong.

In Kansas City, MO., YuLanda has made a name for herself since she was a little girl in the church choir. At a young age, YuLanda received the “Entertainer of the Year” award in her hometown that started her career.

“It was beautiful,” said YuLanda. “I was so overwhelmed with receiving that and I am so blessed to have that because it could have been anyone,” YuLanda added.

Years later, YuLanda was given the opportunity through a phone interview to be the lead singer of the Grammy award winning group, “The Sounds of Blackness.” Lance Alexander, who is a member of the music group “Low Key” told her that “The Sounds” lead singer was no longer with the group and he referred her to them.

With “The Sounds of Blackness” YuLanda has had much success. Her song, “Reconciliation” was nominated for two NAACP Image awards in 2000 as well as the song, “Kings and Queens” that received a nomination for Best Duo/Outstanding Group in 2008. Not only has the group had its winnings in Grammys and Stellar awards, but they have accepted Emmy nominations too.

Singing all genres of music from pop, rock to R&B, YuLanda transformed into a multi-talented performer. With her success, YuLanda performed a tribute for Aretha Franklin at the 39th Annual NAACP Image Awards where she sung, “Young, Gifted and Black.” She has also made appearances on “Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Soul Train,” “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” and “Regis & Kelly.”

As an artist couple years back, YuLanda was in the music scene when singers such as Whitney Houston were making a big impact.

“A lot of real singers are not out now like it was years back, but I would say that Fantasia has made an amazing career for herself,” YuLanda stated. “Now, it is a lot of sex in the camera and auto tuning within the R&B scene. It is a lot different,” YuLanda added.

YuLanda has been working on her new album that’s to be released late 2011. This project is going to showcase her vocal variety and intricate style of music balancing gospel and R&B to her listeners. The album consists of ballads like “Let It Go,” the upbeat “Quickly,” and the dramatic and epic “Jus B Cuz.”

YuLanda is giving spiritual, up lifting and love through this album and she is ready to present her love for music to the world.

“The sky is the limit,” said YuLanda.
