*President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle will head across the pond this spring to hang with the royal family.

Queen Elizabeth is hosting the Obamas at Buckingham Palace for an official state visit from May 24 through 26, the Queen’s press secretary confirms to UsMagazine.com.

This will be the first state visit from a United States president since President George W. Bush went there in November 2003.

As for that other important London affair, the April 29 royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Michelle has said she hasn’t quite marked her calendar yet. During a recent appearance on “Live! With Regis and Kelly,’ the First Lady said she hasn’t been invited.

“Marriage is a personal private thing, they should invite who they want to invite,” she said. “And if I get invited, I’ll go.”

The Obamas’ official state visit comes two years after the headline making encounter between FLOTUS and Queen Elizabeth at a G-20 reception, when the Queen touched her hand to Michelle Obama’s back, and the gesture was then returned. [See photo below.]

The UK and royal watchers around the world freaked out because patting the Queen’s back is unprecedented behavior in Buckingham Palace.
