*It’s official, Rhymefest is in the running for Chicago’s April election against incumbent Ald. Willie Cochran.
Receiving 20 percent of the vote among five candidates, while Cochran got 46 percent. Despite the huge gap between the two, the rapper, born Che Smith will have more time to win over his potential candidates.
“A lot of people didn’t vote for Cochran. People want change, and those who voted for Andre and George Davis will join up with me for change,” Rhymefest told reporters. “I’m having a revolution of love. We want the 20th Ward to be a village again.”
On April 5, Chicago voters will revisit the polls to choose their new 20th Ward alderman.
“We have 42 days to make this happen,” Rhymefest tweeted Wednesday morning. “I’m going out today to get to work immediately but I cannot do this alone.”
His goal is to bring better, more eco-friendly business and jobs to the poorest side of the city. He is also supporting local teachers and public education.
