(Video) Pepsi Super Bowl Ad: Another Angry Black Woman Stereotype

*Madison Ave. appears to have made up its mind about black women.

In two commercials currently in rotation – a State Farm ad and a PepsiMax spot that premiered last night during the Super Bowl – a black woman is shown being antagonistic toward her black boyfriend or husband, while the man is shown having to suffer through it … that is until another woman more desirable suddenly appears to cheer him up.

In the State Farm ad, the angry girlfriend turns into her man’s wish of a lighter-skinned woman with longer hair (and less clothing). In the PepsiMax ad, the other woman catching the man’s eye is white.

Watch both below…

  1. that pepsi max commercial doesn’t surprise me one bit…..aren’t all black women angry & hard to get along with and aren’t all black men obsessed with white women?

  2. babycakes says:

I noticed that in the two commericals, Madison Ave has a bad habit of presenting us in a bad light, it was mean to be humorous but it failed. EUR stop with the light skin vs dark skin analiogy PLEASE!!!

  3. they are commercials, geesh, why does everything become a big issue?

    • What a naive thing to say. Commercials are designed to reinforce, change and appeal to the subconsious. Marketing is a socio-psychological art. People buy based on subconscious motivation and stimulation.

Did you skip your college marketing classes?

  4. LOL….I’m still waiting to see how long it will take these blogs to post something about the black lady in the Bounce Sheets commercial talkin’ about “where she put ‘em”! She brings out all the stereotypes in that one. LOL

  5. nightshift says:

the only crime is that wig plopped on her head 5ft from her “natural” hairline

  6. i didn’t notice a big complexion difference between the two women in the state farm ad. the topic of light black women/white women are the ire of many blk females. go to any blog site for us and look at the # of posts whenever there’s a story about black men and light skinned blk women or white women. the # of posts are always through the roof. Madison Ave didn’t create this.

The State Farm commercial doesn’t bother me. After all, the girlfriend got her wish for a buff boyfriend first, so he just returned the favor, LOL!!! But the Pepsi commerical was a bit disturbing. When I saw it last night, I thought it was hilaroius allbeit a little over the top. But I was NOT feeling the end of it AT. ALL. Why did the jogger have to be a white woman? And a PLAIN white woman a that?! All that did was feed into the stereotype that black women are too “extra”, so black men prefer white women. If the jogger had been a black woman as well then I wouldn’t have had a problem with the commercial. What in the heck were the Marketing people thinking? BTW- I’ve been on other blogs and there is a petition going around to boycott Pepsi behind this add.

    • DawnDuhDuh says:

It had to be a plain white woman because black women don’t jog because they don’t want to sweat that perm out. lol, it wouldn’t have been believable.

I saw that Pepsi commercial a few weeks before Super Bowl because they wanted members to vote for which commercial was best (I chose the one with the pug dog). I would have thought the negative vibe that was coming from members’ comments would have kept Pepsi from airing the ad. Guess they put too much money in it to toss it.

Now the State Farm commercial is funny. They could have used any couple, of any race, using the same lines and still pulled off the funny. I did not see a color difference in the female…at first I thought it was the same woman just done up and sporting less clothes. Had to look at it again to notice they are two different women; they are similar in build though unlike the two guys…wonder what that says?

  9. jbfromptown says:

typical, doesn’t surprise me. If they allow Tyler Perry’s show with all that cooning and buffooning to stay on then why not this? This was tame by all accounts.

  10. I have no problem with either commercial. Semms like folks just want to complain about something.

  11. People have anger, over money and a lack of truth. We are so worried over skin color like light versus dark but God made us spiritual, and shut up the eyes and ears of his vision, light is day and darkness is night.

  12. ebliverator says:

you would think that with all the media hoopla about so many black women being single and lonely, that the chick with a man would be less abusive and more appreciative. i would’ve checking out that white girl too

    • You’re just as bad as white folks who believe that all black men are violent, sex-crazed thugs who need to be locked up or killed. Using your logic, perhaps black women should get with white men because they’re less violent, hardworking, and faithful men. Stop reaching with the ridiculous stereotypes!

      • ebliverator says:

those sound like pretty good reasons to date a white guy to me. what people hate to admit is that stereotypes or exaggerations of reality, but they are usually based in fact.

  13. Black women are angry. Everybody knows that. They only showed the truth.

    • And watered down “denatured” Blacks are toxic as hell and have no place amongst us. They are vile and as devisive as they come.

  14. Bayou-Beauty says:

Don’t blame pepsi, blame Omarosa, real house wives of Atlanta, and every other black female on these reality shows that are always cussing and screaming, going off on someone and always fighting.

  15. In the State Farm commercial, the fantasy Sista is Selita Ebanks, she’s fine, however both Sistas to me seem to hold it down. I mean, you put the first Sista in shorts, heels and her hair down, visually, would have been the same effect. Unlike the second Brother who was clearly more ripped than the first. I don’t get the light skinned vs the dark skinned thing at all.

  16. camille01 says:

Shouldn’t black women be more concerned about the angry white woman. During slavery the uppity black negress could be lynched. Black women nursed her babies, took care of her children and cooked and slaved on her plantation. We never complained, got angry and seldom got uppity, attesting to the fact that not all of us were lynched but managed to have children of our own. In fact today black women are some of the most successful, positive, role models of good will and human compassion. Some black women may have anger issues, some white women may have anger issues, certainly some white men may have anger issues. I get it, the black woman is not ALLOWED to have anger issues.

  17. THEHIPHOP CHEF says:

COME ON PEOPLE LESS FACE IT AND I DO MEAN BLACK PEOPLE…THEY MAKE THOSE Ads BECAUSE MANY OF YOU FEED INTO THOSE STEREO TYPES… IF WE WERE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE REALITY OF PROBLEMS WE FACE IN OUR COMMUNITYS AND LESS CONCERNED ABOUT THESE BOURGEOISIE LIFE SYLES OR TRYING ACT LIKE MR. AND MS. SMITH….I THINK WE WOULD BE BETTER ….. BUT HEY… MANY OF YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT WHO, WHAT, WHERE YOU CAME FROM ANYWAY…..THEY WILL JUST KEEP LAUGHING AT US!!!!!!!
