*The infamous “Candy Licker,” blues singer Marvin Sease has died. He passed away on Tuesday in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was 64. The official cause death is not known, but it’s being speculated that he died from pneumonia.
Sease started off as a gospel singer with the gospel group The Five Gospel Crowns. He later moved to New York City with his three brothers and started a band called Sease. However, they didn’t find much success and split up after about 3 years.
After going solo, Sease got a recurring gig at a club Brooklyn called Casablanca, where he performed cover songs. It wasn’t long after that he hit big on his own with hits such as “Ghetto Man” and “Candy Licker.” The former became an instant success in the South despite the fact that it couldn’t be played on the radio due to its racy lyrics.
While he never achieved massive commercial success, Sease developed a cult following over the years.
