Nate Dogg’s Fam, Lawyer Say Strokes Led to Death

*Although no official cause of death has been announced, Nate Dogg’s lawyer is saying that the crooner died from stroke complications.

The singer’s friend and manager Rod McGrew released a statement on behalf of the family, who also say  Nate’s death was caused by complications stemming from the two strokes he suffered over the past couple of years.

According to McGrew, Nate was “95% recovered from the first stroke in 2007″ when the second stroke occurred in 2008, leaving Nate partially paralyzed and causing partial memory loss.  But McGrew says Nate had “cognitively fully recovered” — meaning he got his memory back and was fully alert and aware all the way up to his final days, reports TMZ.

McGrew just released a statement on behalf of himself and Nate’s family … saying, “We appreciate the enormous outpouring of response from all over the world. We greatly appreciate that and thank everyone for their prayers and support.”

The statement continues, “We know that Nate will be hanging out with his good friends 2Pac and Biggie.”

The artist passed away Tuesday at the age of 41, but his cause of death was initially unknown.

According to OnTheRedCarpet.com, Nate’s attorney Mark Geragos is confirming that his death was due to complications from the strokes.

Nate Dogg rose to fame in the 1990′s after singing for a number of years in the New Hope Baptist Church Choir in Long Beach, California. His hip-hop career took off when he joined Snoop Dogg and Warren G in the trio 213.

On Sunday, two days before his death, Warren G tweeted out a request for prayers regarding Nate’s health.

“Nate dogg is my top dogg he is in therapy folks lets pray for a faster recovery he will always be apart of what ever I do and you do know,” Warren wrote.

Following his most recent stroke, Nate Dogg reportedly lost the ability to speak. “When I go see him, he knows who I am,” Warren G told HipHollywood in a video interview in November 2010. “I talk to him, play music to him. He had two strokes and that’s real dangerous.”

As previously reported, Snoop tweeted an emotional message regarding Nate’s passing. Here it is in its entirety:

I miss u cuzz I am so sad but so happy I got to grow up wit u and I will c u again n heaven cuz u know d slogan. all doggs go to heaven yo homie n baby brotha bigg snoopdogg!! RIP NATE DOGG.”
