*Los Angeles – Viewers have until April 28 to vote online for Diary of a Single Mom, directed by Hollywood icon, Robert Townsend.

Diary of a Single Mom has received a Webby Award nomination for best drama in online film and video.

The innovative web series airs on global nonprofit One Economy’s Public Internet Channel (PIC.TV).  Following each episode, which covers such issues as diabetes and financial challenges, viewers are directed to online tools and resources to help them take action about topics highlighted in the series.

Diary of a Single Mom was the first dramatic series to debut on the Public Internet Channel in 2008. The series chronicles the lives of three single mothers and their families trying to get ahead despite obstacles such as childcare, healthcare, education and finances.

One Economy’s Public Internet Channel (PIC.TV), is a public-purpose network of writers, bloggers, producers and directors that provide free videos and tools to help viewers live a better life. The network has a history of tackling tough social issues, including childhood obesity, diabetes, gang violence and teenage pregnancy. The goal of all PIC.tv programming is to get viewers engaged and inspired, then connect them to the resources and tools to help them take action.

According to the recent Horowitz Associates, Inc.’s State of Cable and Digital Media study, almost a third of urban consumers (31%) watch TV content via alternative platforms. Thirty-six percent of Black consumers watch TV content on alternative platforms at least weekly versus 25% of whites.
