*The relentless 4-month manhunt for a North Carolina honor student who had been in Baltimore visiting over the Christmas break has ended in tragedy.
The young woman’s naked body was found in Maryland’s Susquehanna River on Wednesday. Authorities also found a man’s body during the search. A tattoo on her right leg confirmed her identity.
Phylicia Barnes, 16, had come to Baltimore to spend time with her half sister during Christmas break. The last time anyone heard from her is in a post on Facebook where she said she was at her sister’s apartment with her sister’s boyfriend. (more…)
All this got on channel 4 news here in NYC on Friday was a spot on the scroll at the bottom of the screen. I haven’t gotten to see the news since 6pm on Friday and hope that the news will do some indepth follow up and won’t let this go. It’s a damn shame that our missing either aren’t covered or are barely mentioned.

I agree with you brroklynbabe. I heard this story after Christmas around mid January or so she had been missing a few weeks then. The media did not bother to report it nationally until then and they only briefly covered it then. Now in Tenn I think a young white woman a nursing student is missing and the media was on top of that story then next day and they still report on it. So darn unfair and such a obvious double standard.
Sorry to hear this story ended in tragedy. I think I read about her missing here and felt so sorry for the anguished parents. Hope they find her killer soon.
I refuse to follow all the stories about missing white women because of unbalanced coverage.
