Video: Obama Launches Official 2012 Reelection Campaign

*Once again it’s on.

With a 5 a.m. video sent Monday via email and text message to supporters, President Barack Obama announced his intention to seek reelection in 2012.

By filing papers with the Federal Election Commission, the president can begin fundraising for his 2012 operation, which will be headquartered at One Prudential Plaza in Chicago — just a short hop away from the site of his victory speech in 2008 at Grant Park.

Jim Messina, who worked as deputy chief of staff to the president for two years until last January, will serve as campaign manager for Obama’s effort to stay in the White House.  The Washington Post notes that many of the names who helped Obama win in 2008 will be on board to advance his second presidential campaign.

This morning, the Obama For America premiered the 2 min 10 sec video – titled “It Begins With Us.” The footage contained no images of Obama, and featured voice over from American citizens discussing their reasons for supporting the president’s 2012 campaign. [Scroll down to watch.]

“This campaign is just kicking off,” the site states. “We’re opening up offices, unpacking boxes, and starting a conversation with supporters like you to help shape our path to victory.”

Friend –

Today, we are filing papers to launch our 2012 campaign.

We’re doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you — with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build.

So even though I’m focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today.

We’ve always known that lasting change wouldn’t come quickly or easily. It never does. But as my administration and folks across the country fight to protect the progress we’ve made — and make more — we also need to begin mobilizing for 2012, long before the time comes for me to begin campaigning in earnest.

As we take this step, I’d like to share a video that features some folks like you who are helping to lead the way on this journey. Please take a moment to watch:

You know the haters are gonna love hearing this!

  2. The audacity of this person is palpable. “You elected me, I did zippo for you, kept NONE of my promises, didn’t even TRY to keep any of them, in fact, I did the exact OPPOSITE of what I promised I would do–like remember when I said I would join any picket line if the viability of unions was being threatened? Well, as you know I kept silent in Wisconsin and Ohio. Remember when I railed against pre-emptive war? Yeah, well, that didn’t apply to Libya. Remember when I spent TWO whole years railing against Bush’s tax cuts? Yeah, well I decided to go ahead and extend them just because I changed my mind. But despite ALL of this, I DARE you not to vote for me again! I know you will. I’m not even sweatin’ it…(Suckers!)”

    And the beat goes on…

I am with you on this one. There is a law in the state of Mass that allows ex offenders (depends on the felony) back in the workplace and only law enforcement can see their background. When Barack came to the aid of gays and lesbians and the rich, and now this war in Libya I was done.

  3. On the day president obama launches his re-election bid there is a “State of White America” lecture being given by the American Enterprise Institute. They are going to try their best to supress votes in 2012. Dont fall for the bs

  4. I can’t wait to see what the Obama 2012 campaign will be all about, since Obama 2008 was all about hope and change, which turned out to be change we cannot believe in. Obama was chosen out of rejection of the Bush polices and fear that Hillary would be more like Bush, with his war mongering ways. But it turned out that virtually all of the abominable Bush policies continue – extensions of the Patriot act, Gitmo, indefinite detention, wire tapping, and even torture.

But it’s going to be tough getting out the votes anyway, with no ACORN, thanks to the Democrats capitulating to the Republicans and their doctored tape of a pimp and his prostitute. If they did take the time to investigate further, they would have found out that the man never presented himself at any time as a pimp nor the woman as prostitute, to the ACORN workers. He presented her as his girlfriend and he did not go into the ACORN office wearing a pimp garb, all that was added footage.

Three years and unable to show any leadership to get the major accomplishments, the disaster in Wisconsin, allowing thieving politicians to continue to loot our tax money, Libya, it is not a good look for Barack.

      • Cant blame the President for those fools in Wisconsin. Last fall Obama warned folks not to give republicans “the keys back”. And thats exactly what many voters did in a stupid attempt “to take their country back” from Obama and the democrats. Time and time again people have been warned about those extreme Teapublicans. Many people who voted against their own interest during the mid terms have come to regret it.

But the good news out of Wisconsin today is recall efforts are going strong.

Hopefully the next time Obama says dont give the keys to those crazy azz Teapublicans people will listen! Union households, people on fixed incomes such as Social Security and medicare voting in favor of crazy people who want to do away with their livelihood all because they want to “take their country back”.

        • He is the President, he said he would march with them to show support. Did not do it. Unemployed black men with felonies need a hand up not a hand out to work, silence. The list is growing and the deficit is getting larger by the day. At what point do we ask for results and stop taking his skin color for granted?

  5. Obama need to focus on the implications for the economy resulting from the Republicans taking over Congress, as once more they strive to institute their trickle-down economic policies, which carry dire consequences for income growth.

Trickle-down economy is the idea that if the rich are allowed to make enormous profits they will share that money with everyone else. It was a stupid idea, and nothing trickled down to anyone — it just went into the bank accounts of the rich and sat there.
By the time Bush 2 was president the full effects of the “trickle-down” economic policies were being felt. And they had a devastating effect on income growth for most Americans. During the Bush years (2000-2007) the top 10% had ALL of the growth in income (and about 3/4 of that income growth went to the top 1%), while the bottom 90% of Americans actually had their income drop.
This is the primary cause of the current serious recession being experienced by most Americans (the financial bungling on Wall Street was just the trigger — not the cause). So what do Republicans think is the solution to this mess. Well, more of the same. They just forced a massive tax giveaway to the rich which increased the deficit by nearly 50%. Now they say the deficit must be cut, and of course, they want the burden of those cuts to be borne by the bottom 90% of the population.

    • Goldman Sachs, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac just gave out bonus money, GE pays zero tax. It has been three years, need I continue?

    • Today’s New York Times sports section has a full-page ad for Goldman Sachs. That’s not that weird. But it gets weirder. See, it’s an ad bragging about the social benefits of a stadium deal they put together in Louisville — the big picture is of a waitress who got a job near the stadium. So, weird thing number one is: It’s hard to find economists who really really believe, in a convincing way, that publicly financed stadiums have social benefits. Is Goldman Sachs putting its considerable expertise behind the idea that, to serve social goals (as opposed to wealthy clients) stadiums are the best use of public money? Weird thing number two is: What’s the point of the ad? How might this bring Goldman Sachs new clients? Like people are going to hire them to help get more waitresses employed? I don’t see that happening. Seems to me a lot more like an exercise in showing that Goldman Sachs are the experts who can make public stadium funding look palatable even in this economy.

I just signed in as an initial response. When I raised issues with the current administration on other related blog/articles; I received thumbs-down’s.

I’m only on until I see better. Still stuck in the “Enthusiasm-Chasm”. (nee. “Gap”)
