NeNe Leakes of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta"
*In a lengthy interview with the New York Times, actress/comedienne/late-night host Chelsea Handler went on a tear about some television shows that she can’t stomach – naming among them, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
“I try to make fun of everyone as often as possible, especially minorities,” she quipped to the New York Times. “People are too P.C. … We need to be focusing on other things. We’re seeking out such grossness in human behavior and want such mindless entertainment. ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ and some of these other shows are more racist.”
There was no further clarification of her remark, which could’ve been directed toward Bravo for appearing to encourage the angry black woman stereotype, or perhaps toward the issue of race that arose within the show last season when NeNe referred to Kim Zolciak’s assistant as her “slave.”
Handler went on to trash MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” and similar shows about teen pregnancy, believing it glorifies the condition rather than cautions against it.
“Getting rewarded for being pregnant when you’re a teenager?” she told the New York Times. “Are you serious? I mean, that makes me want to kill somebody.”
Handler revealed that she had an abortion when she was 16 “because that’s what I should have done. Otherwise I would now have a 20-year-old kid. Anyway, those are things that people shouldn’t be dishonest about it.”
Handler, who hosts E!’s “Chelsea Lately” and stars in the network’s “After Lately,’ is set to star in an NBC comedy series based on her book, “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.”
Chelsea does have apoint when it comes to the 16 & pregnant and teen mon shows but other than that I find her comments annoying and she is not the least bit funny.
