Chrysler Credits Eminem Ad with Boosting Company Profits

*Chrysler execs believe their Super Bowl-launched “Imported From Detroit” ad campaign starring Eminem has contributed directly to their recent financial boost.

The commercial, which doubles as a tribute to the rapper’s hometown of Detroit, features Eminem cruising the city in a new Chrysler 200, with his “8 Mile” hit “Lose Yourself”  as the soundtrack. At the end of the ad, he says, “This is Motor City. This is what we do.” [Scroll down to watch.]

The campaign appears to have worked wonders for Chrysler’s struggling accounts. The company posted figures showing their first profitable quarter since they filed for bankruptcy in 2009.

Executives revealed they made $116 million in profits for the first three months of 2011, compared to the $197 million net loss during the same period in 2010.

Chrysler head Richard Palmer says the Eminem spot “clearly had a fairly big impact also on market levels, with (the) Eminem Super Bowl ad being extremely well-viewed on YouTube.”

Eminem isn’t the only big name to represent Chrysler; his mentor Dr. Dre has signed up to star in the upcoming Chrysler 300 campaign.

  1. Hope they didn’t forget Obama and the Democrats. He was the one who saved the domestic automobile industry, in particular Chrysler.
In case they forget, Chrysler was tethering on the brink of extinction if not for the automobile bailout championed by Obama and the Democrats, Republican opposition , notwithstanding.

That is why it’s so difficult for me to be confident in an Obama reelection. You would think that since nobody hardly gives them credit, they would be using that bully pulpit more to put out the word, but they seem to be intimidated by it.
Such a stark contrast from Bush. Wonder why he got reelected?

What on earth does Obama have to do with this article. With as much bad press as we’ve gotten lately about Detroit, please let them hold on to something positive. We are so quick to credit the president, yet we fail to hold him accountable when we should-instead we ascribe his shortcomings and failures to the previous administration.

      • Obama and the Democrats have EVERYTHING to do with this article.
Without the automobile bailout, there would be no Chrysler and no ad to run.

  2. Detroit’s been running ads using entertainers for years, and that didn’t stop them from selling fewer and fewer cars. But people so gullible to believe this bullshit that some white rapper came along and saved the day.

The foundation for this is the restructuring which they were forced into by the Obama admin after filing bankruptcy. They had to dump most of the worthless crap they had on the road and enter into a partnership with Fiat.

And the Republicans didn’t have shit to do with it either.
The Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell: “We have had before us this whole question of the viability of the American automobile manufacturers. None of us want to see them go down, but very few of us had anything to do with the dilemma that they have created for themselves.”

I have to concur, The Auto industry was saved by the Obama administration. Eminem’s video may have been a factor but not nearly as impactful as what The government made them do to survive.

guess I’m watching the wrong channel, I’ve never seen the commercial, save this time here.
