*”Transformers 3″ is on its way out to movie theaters. You know what that means, right? Controversy over Skids and Mudflap. But, this time out director Michael Bay dares anyone to find the robots in the film.
The twin Autobots were slammed when they appeared in 2009′s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” for being robotic caricatures of African-Americans. Bay committed to not using the pair in the third film. But an early review, posted at Ain’t It Cool News, made mention of “street” robots used for comic relief (the remark has since been edited from the piece).
So, what’s the real deal Mr. Bay? Are you secretly sliding the the twins back into film?
Nope, that’s not the case according to the cranky, but brilliant director in two posts on his ShootForTheEdit website. In the first one, Bay said:
“After the internet posting of a nice review by someone who saw Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the writer had not been clear on one thing. He misstated that the Twins are in the film. They are not. So I am offering a $25,000 REWARD to anyone who can find them performing in Transformers 3, on July 1, when the movie opens.”
Then, several readers responded that Skids and Mudflap appeared to be in the trailer, to which Bay replied:
“The Twins are not in the movie. You will not find them anywhere. Trailer houses sometimes use shots that are not in the movie! End [of] story[.] I’m done wasting my time [on] this!”
But then you have to wonder why were they shot in the first place? Did Bay plan to bring the pair back regardless of what anyone thought, only to have second thoughts? Hmmm.
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” opens July 1.
