*Uh oh, get ready for some big time ish from Obama haters, conspiracy theorists and others. That’s because the Obama administration will not release photos showing Osama bin Laden after he was killed by U.S. forces, the president has told CBS News.
The decision follows debate within the administration about whether to distribute what has been described as a “gruesome” photo to prove that the Al Qaeda leader is dead.
CBS said it will air the president’s comments Wednesday night, but didn’t elaborate on his reasons.
Several politicians who have seen the photos—including Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) and Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA)—said they should not be released. But others have demanded they be shown in order to put to rest any doubts that bin Laden had really been killed.
“There are sensitivities here in terms of the appropriateness of releasing photographs,” White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Tuesday, adding that the photos of Bin Laden’s corpse “could be inflammatory.”
