*One week after announcing at the NBC upfront that he wasn’t running for president, the “Celebrity Apprentice” star told Fox & Friends on Monday that he hasn’t quite closed the door on a late-entry bid.
“I would not rule it out,” he said. “I said I wouldn’t do it. I said I probably, you know, in so many different respects, I see what’s going on. I can’t rule out anything. The country is so important. It’s so vital that we choose the right person, and at this moment, I don’t see that person.”
Pressed about whether that means he might throw his hat in the race even six months down the road, Trump replied: “Well I’m not going to rule anything out. That I can tell you.”
As for why he announced his decision not to run last week, Trump said it had nothing to do with criticism over his attacks on President Obama.
“I’ve been attacked all my life. … But you know, you give up so much when you do this, and I’m not just talking about a top television show — and this is a top show — you give up so much when you do this,” he said. “And it was just a decision I made. And who knows, stranger things have happened. I look at these Republican candidates, and I’m saying, what’s going on? This country cannot afford to lose this election.”
The finale of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” aired Sunday night to a rather paltry 2.9/7 share in the coveted 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen. The episode proved to be the lowest spring finale ever for “The Apprentice,” Celebrity or otherwise.
