*BET founder Robert (Bob) L. Johnson and Morgan Freeman are working together to launch a humanitarian effort through the mogul’s online charity auction platform called ClubCharity.com to benefit a new Bahamas Hurricane Prep website.
The fundraising effort is aimed at helping the community with hurricane preparedness for the upcoming season of rain, wind and storms.
Local resorts and tourism companies are committed to the effort in assisting with the project over the season, which is expected to be very active.
The website will provide up to date information to residents and visitors about how hurricanes and how they affect everyone on the islands. It will also provide resources and information about how to get ready for the season, including preparing emergency kits.
So far this year, the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center has forecasted 12 to 18 storms in the Atlantic during the season. Not all will be major, but at least three will be damaging.
“I am pleased to partner with Bob Johnson and his ClubCharity.com platform to help individuals who are most in need during critical weather months,” said Freeman, who was recently honored by AFI. “We are approaching some of the most severe and deadly weather months across the country and have already witnessed the devastating impact hurricanes, flooding and other natural disasters can have on our families, our communities, homes and businesses.”
Several items are being auctioned off on the website, including an 18-hole round of golf with Johnson and Freeman; two VIP tickets to a taping of “The View” and several other great items.
