*For folks of a certain age, you either had a knockoff of the “Thriller” jacket (and pushed up the sleeves), or knew somebody who did.
Now, the real thing has become available thanks to the people at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills. The house will place the iconic red and black leather jacket Michael Jackson wore in his “Thriller” video up for bid on June 25 (the second anniversary of his death) and June 26. It expects to sell for at least $200,000.
Auction administrator Darren Julien calls the piece “the most recognized and significant piece of pop culture” to come up for sale under his roof.
Other Jackson items up for auction include the wig he wore when he announced his ill-fated “This Is It” concert series, his shirt from the “Scream” video and the battered mailbox from the Carolwood Drive estate where Jackson died at age 50 in 2009.
