Soul Train (www.soultrain.com) will partner with Lincoln Center to host a Soul Train-themed evening during the 2011 season of “Midsummer Night Swing” on Tuesday, June 28 at 6pm EST. Midsummer Night Swing will pay tribute to the iconic series on the occasion of its 40th Anniversary with live performances and classic Soul Train dancing. The event will take place at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.
Soul Train and Swing will present a night of funk and soul starring two brass musicians responsible for much of the best funk ever recorded Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley—famous for their artistic collaborations with music legends James Brown, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and more. They will also perform along with special guests Martha High and Fred Ross.
The event will also feature a lesson in history as original Soul Train dancer Tyrone “The Bone” Proctor will serve as the night’s dance instructor offering professional tutelage on the moves that made the celebrated series the must-see and longest syndicated show in history.
Legendary hip-hop pioneer and DJ Biz Markie will also showcase his turntable skills with sets that are guaranteed to get the crowd bumpin’. As a complement to his old-school spinning, Biz will also be veejaying, mixing classic Soul Train video clips that showcase the stage and talent that changed forever the way America dances.
