Venus Williams in her third round match against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain on Day Five of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on June 24, 2011 in London

*Five-time champion Venus Williams took just one hour to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon today, putting an old-fashioned whooping  on Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-0, 6-2.

The 23rd-seeded Williams improved her record to 71-9 at the All England Club on Friday – now fourth in all-time Wimbledon wins behind Martina Navratilova (120), Chris Evert (96) and Steffi Graf (74).

Next, Venus will meet Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova, who handed the eldest Williams sister her worst Wimbledon loss last year en route to the semi-finals.

“Last year, I wasn’t on my best game,” Williams said. “But this year, I’m really going to look forward to really playing a little bit better than last year. Every now and then we all have bad days, but I’m planning to have a better one this year.”

Williams last won the Wimbledon title in 2008, but she lost to sister Serena in the 2009 final.
