Audio: Monica’s ‘Anything’ Charts Without Lil Kim Verse

*One week after hitting the web, Monica’s new single, “Anything (To Find You),” featuring Rick Ross, debuts on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at No. 71, Billboard reports. The first track from her upcoming seventh studio album, “New Life” (October 18), charts with Rick Ross as a guest feature, but doesn’t include verses from Lil Kim.

According to Billboard, fans had voiced their thoughts on the length of Lil’ Kim’s guest spot. During a chat with “The Lil’ Kim Fan Club Show,” on the day of the rapper’s 37th birthday (July 11),  Lil’ Kim explained to her fans that her part on Monica’s single, “Anything (To Find You)” was shortened to make room for Rick Ross.

“In all actuality, I did a 16 in addition to the 8 bars that ya’ll all [heard],” Lil’ Kim told The Lil Kim Fan Club Show. “Monica and her people decided to add Rick Ross on the track.”

A source at J Records tells Billboard.com that Lil’ Kim has been removed entirely from the official song due to contractual issues. No further details were shared.

During her birthday chat with her fans, Lil’ Kim announced plans to release the first single, “Looks Like Money,” off her upcoming sixth studio album. The cut is reportedly produced by Rockwilder, according to Rap-Up. Lil’ Kim confirmed “M.O.E.,” a standout track from her “Black Friday” mixtape, will make on appearance on the new album as well. The album title and release date for Lil’ Kim’s follow-up to “The Naked Truth” (2005) have yet to be announced.

Hmm. I’ve never been a Monica fan. I just don’t grasp her appeal. (I feel that way about the overrated MJB too). Wish someone could explain what’s great about her.

As for this song … why start off with several lines borrowed from the classic You’re All I Need to Get By? Sounds like trash to me.

    Seriously. I don’t get it.

    • She’s had a few songs that I really liked, a few. I think this song is kool. Gives you that 90s feel RnB which I appreciate since we have so much lame shit thats “hot” out right now. I haven’t been much of a MJB fan since about her 4th album. Her 1st 3-4 albums were fire in my opinion.

Sounds like you just have a personal dislike for Monica that has little to do with her music.

      • synthia says:

Well, I was enjoying your efforts to explain until the last sentence.

I don’t know Monica outside of music and my “personal dislike” is reserved for people who engender strong passionate reactions(Tyler Perry, for example)…not someone so utterly vacant that I can’t even figure out why people like her — so your immensely wrong.

I seriously listened to the song and it was like listening to … nothing. That sums up Monica for me… there’s just nothing …there…not even to dislike. She’s just eh …and bleh.

What is else she known for? …oh …shaking Shannon Brown loose from his fiance and child. That’s about the only other thing I’ve heard about her and no that didn’t endear her. But one has to wonder what on earth interested Shannon…because again… she’s so bleh…so…inconsequential… I don’t get it….

Back to my original question for anyone with insight …what is her X-factor?

        • synthia says:

For example… is she supposed to be pretty?? Is she presumed to have a good voice??? Is she supposed to be some insightful lyricist???

Because she is not worth looking at, listening to, or remembering to me. She’s not a great performer. She guested briefly on The Voice and was ultra forgettable and said nothing of consequence. I just really need to know how I’m missing her magic.

She must have something because she’s still making music but for the life of me I cannot figure out what it is.

I don’t have one Monica song in my WMP. And if I saw her on TV I’d change the channel.

  2. Monica is tight as hell in my book.

  3. Heard both versions. IMO Lil Kim made this joint.

  4. @synthia are you sure you don’t have a personal dislike of monica because 3 long post about her being unforgettable makes it seem that way LOL!! are you shannon’s child’s mother or something because I don’t see what that had to do with this article.

    • synthia says:

I think I’m sure. I mean Shannon Brown isn’t much of a catch so it couldn’t be that — although I do tend to rag on man-stealers (like Alicia K.).

Three long posts? Have you followed my comments on this board? I am quite verbose. I love debating shit. That first one isn’t even long.

      Anyway, here’s another long post.

I remember in my teens hearing Monica and Brandy’s name always mentioned like they were rivals. I liked some Brandy songs easily, but I couldn’t figure out why people thought Monica was worth mentioning or listening to. I just didn’t get it then and I don’t get it now.

Apparently, neither do any of you. Because NOBODY, despite all the thumbs down, can tell me what’s so great about Monica. You know why? Because the answer is “nothing!” It damn sure ain’t her voice or looks.

So, you guys don’t know either, huh? You just fell for the okey-doke?

I am honestly trying to see if there’s an unconscious reason why this girl is so irritating to me.

Let’s see: Can’t sing. Unremarkable looks and personality. Baby mama with two bastard children. Man stealer. Hell, listing all this is certainly great ammunition to fuel a personal dislike.

But the reality remains that she is still mediocre musically and doesn’t even deserve to have a contract or be on the airwaves.

Sounds like you just have a personal preference…..she’s no better or worse than all the other so called singers out there today,,, INCLUDING Miss Beyonce!!!! IMHO

  6. I’ve always liked Monica and think she is one of the few singers out who can actually sing. Beauty is purely subjective, but I find it hard to believe someone finds her unattractive — oh well. I think she’s very pretty.

OAN, I heard Biggie’s mother didn’t grant approval for Lil’ Kim to rap over the ‘Who Shot Ya’ sample. Monica tweeted that she respected Ms. Wallace’s feelings and would NOT release the version with Lil’ Kim on it.
