*The remake of “Sparkle,” the 1976 classic, has not gone by the wayside for those of you looking forward to it … or NOT looking forward to it.
Anyway, during a chat with Indie Wire at the American Black Film Festival/ABFF, Paula Patton revealed that a part in the upcoming film has been offered to her.
“Maybe,” Patton coyly answered when asked if she would be starring in the reboot. “It would be very hard to say ‘No’ to Salim, but I just can’t say ‘Yes’ because it’s not all official yet.”
While the actress didn’t say which role she’d be playing in the film, there is a chance she could play Sparkle.
The film will be directed by Mara Brock-Akil and her husband Salim Akil. If Patton does in fact take a part, this will be the second time she will work with the Akils. She recently starred in T.D. Jakes’ “Jumping the Broom” which Akil directed.
She also noted that working with the couple has inspired her to take her career to another level.
“If we continue to make quality good movies that people want to see, then the white folks and everybody else, they’ll show up,” Paula added. “But, we have to keep making movies for the community and making them great. As great as they possibly can be.”

I really do not think Sparkle should be remade. th original is quite good so why tamper with it?? Since it looks like there will be a remake then Paula should paly Sister and get someone else probably an unknown for the lead role.
That was the same thing I was thinking babycakes.
She should definitely play the role of Sister. They will be very hard pressed to cast another female that would put Paula in the shadows (beauty) of the Sister character. To make Paula (as Sparkle) look like the plain Jane is going to be a little hard to do….
It could be interesting to see what the Akil team would do with this remake, but it will never be as brillant as the original!!!
I, too, think they should leave well enough alone. To be honest, I don’t think some of the female actresses of today could pull it off. There was something about black seventies actresses that grabbed your attention. They naturally oozed sex appeal and confidence. Today, too many of these actresses try too hard. I’m not crazy about Paula Patton’s acting, so maybe she should play Sparkle(actually, Sister was the character that riveted us more than the Sparkle character).
After seeing her in jumping the broom, I don’t think she can carry a lead role. she’s more of a supporting character.
Well, they are remaking A Star is Born; this will be the third installment of that movie with Beyonce in the lead this time; prior actress from the 70′s version was Barbra Streisand, so, Paula in Sparkle should be interesting – Lonette McKee was great in the 70′s version of the movie.
Lonette was STUNNING in the role of Sister. It will be very hard for them to cast an actress that can live up to her caliber of beauty & talent!
I got a good idea who should play Sparkle, the original person that’s who. They need to stop all these damn remakes & leave good movies alone!
