*On Wednesday, July 6, in South Beach – The heat, humidity and rain didn’t put a damper on the world premiere of Robert Townsend’s sold-out screening of “In the Hive” opening the 15th Annual American Black Film Festival at the Colony Theater.

If you’re wondering, according to HumorMillmag.com, the film is based on the real experiences of the people who attend and teach at a special school in North Carolina called “The Hive.” It’s based on a true story about a North Carolina woman named Vivian Saunders who, basically without any formal education, started an alternative school for at risk boys: gang bangers, drug dealers, etc. Some are even fathers at the very young ages of 14 and 15.

In addition to ABFF founder Jeff Friday and “Hive” producer Robert Townsend, Bill Duke, Reagan Gomez, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Mekhi Phifer and many more came out

Robert Townsend, Nicole and Jeff Friday
