Early Friday, (Aug. 19), the artist, born Teairra Marquisha Thomas, was arrested in Beverly Hills for drunk driving after crashing her car and assaulting a police officer, TMZ reported. The 23 year old R&B singer was driving a silver Infiniti in Beverly Hills, CA around 3 a.m. when she “rear-ended the car in front of her.”

Police “observed signs of intoxication from Teairra” and arrested her for a DUI, sources tell TMZ. As she was being handcuffed, Teairra was “combative” and ended up causing a police officer to suffer a “minor cut” on his hand.

Teairra Marí was in custody and held on $50,000 bail till being released at 1:10 pm on Friday afternoon, according to Rap-Up.

She released the following statement:

Let me start by saying that this is a very embarrassing moment for me, I know that I’ve disappointed so many people including myself. I take full responsibility for my actions, but I absolutely did NOT “attack” a Beverly Hills police officer and I’m very confused by those allegations. I did have drinks and I misjudged the situation by driving myself home. I want to apologize to those that I endangered that night and also to the people that I’ve let down. I hope that this situation can save someone from making the dumb decision to drink and drive!
