Audio Exclusive: Bowlegged Lou on Vesta’s ‘Unsung’ Episode, More

by Cherie Saunders

*Upon hearing the devastating news about the death of singer Vesta Williams this morning, her close friend Bowlegged Lou reached out to EURweb’s Lee Bailey to mourn her passing and to share with us his recent conversations with her.

In the unedited phone conversation with Bailey below, the Full Force frontman – real name Lucien J. George – is overcome with emotion while absorbing the sudden loss of their mutual friend.  It’s being reported that the singer’s body was found in a Los Angeles hotel room. The cause of death is unknown. She was 53.

Bowlegged Lou talks at length about the conversation he had with Vesta just days ago regarding a TV One interview he completed last Thursday (Sept. 15) for her upcoming episode of “Unsung.” Lou also talks about an old school concert they just did together, her sense of humor that few people got to experience (she did impressions of Chaka Khan, Tina Turner and even Lee Bailey), and much more.

  1. Thanks for this interview Mr. Bailey. Regardless of the circumstances, this is tragic. I hope whatever peace Vesta didn’t get in this life, she will have in the next. I will be looking out for that Unsung episode.

  2. I first read about Vesta’s passing on another entertainment blog. To have this be the FIRST thing you read in the morning (it’s still early on the west coast) is pretty shocking.

Vesta was a good singer who never got her due. The Unsung episode is very fitting and hopefully introduces folks to this special talent. RIP Vesta. Condolences to her family and friends.

Vesta was one of my favorite underrated singers. Her A&M debut gets more than its fair share of play as a locked Mp3s. I love “One Bitten Twice Shy”, “It’s You”, “I’m Coming Back”, “Don’t You Blow a Good Thing” and “Don’t Let Me Down”. I was rooting for her when “Congratulations” was scaling the R&B singles chart…..that album must have come really close to “Gold” for her. She was known for her Chaka Khan influenced vocals and a gift of comedic talents similar to a mix of Millie Jackson w/Bette Midler making her a well rounded entertainer.

May she be at peace. She was too young to have flown away so soon…..
