Let’s keep it real, okay Vesta, went unappreciated by the music industry because of the Dorothy Dandridge syndrome…which I have defined as “a Light mulatto so beautiful not fit for the negro’s appreciation”. Halle Berry has the syndrome too, with her black when it suits her !!!!! Vesta was unbelieveably gorgeous big and small, but she loved her people and stayed true to that, she lived for the African-American experience and made no quarms about it. She was multi-talented in opera, jazz, comedy, recently found that out, and R & B. If she had given her love and talent to White America like many do to stay in the limelight she would have been a judge on American Idol by now. I don’t even know if Vesta won a grammy against all the !!!!! plus !!!!!!! out now. Since Vesta chose her people and the realness of the struggles which are up and down in the industry back then for black women who try to be true to their roots the rode for many than the few has been bittersweet. As for Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Halle Berry, Garcelle, and many others, we much ablige to you!!! Hopefully, their success will equate for so many others who were overlooked and lost in the struggle. Don’t believe ask Lisa Bonet- what happens when you’re young, gifted, black or a tang of color, and gorgeous?
