*LOS ANGELES – The Young Black Scholars (YBS) College Prep Program Orientation and Kickoff for the 2011-12 academic year will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2011 on the campus of West Los Angeles College from 12 NOON to 3 P.M. Working with parents and students throughout the academic school year, the YBS program prepares high school students for college admissions, including training for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT admissions exams.
In addition, participants undergo leadership development, learn community responsibility, and successful life planning. Hosted by 100 Black Men of Los Angeles, the YBS program is co-ed and open to new and returning students grades 9-12 with a 3.0 or higher G.P.A. Since 1986, YBS has assisted more than 21,000 students in realizing their dreams of attending college. Currently, throughout the Los Angeles area, over 170 high schools and 1,000 students, in grades nine through 12, are involved in YBS.
Supported and operated as an educational activity of the 100 Black Men of Los Angeles, Inc., Young Black Scholars is a comprehensive college preparatory program for African-American and other minority high school students. The program brings together some of the best and brightest future leaders to participate in more than 40 workshops, programs, seminars, and conferences throughout the academic school year. The workshops and one-on-one activities help scholars and parents prepare for college admissions, selection, and continued success.
