Nicole Richie in House of Harlow shoes at QVC & FFANY presents Shoes on Sale to benefit breast cancer research

*In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness month, QVC, the Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation (FFCF), and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) joined forces to broadcast the highly anticipated QVC Presents FFANY Shoes on Sale, a charitable shoe sale affording shoe shoppers to shop for fabulous shoe bargains to benefit breast cancer research and education.  The event helps a number of our country’s premier hospitals and foundations who lead the way in breast cancer research and education.

Members of FFANY step up every year to donate shoes and more to QVC Presents FFANY Shoes on Sale in which designer and brand-name shoes are sold at half off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

This year during the three-hour broadcast from QVC Studio Park (with footage from QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” in New York City), QVC will offer more than 100,000 pairs of designer shoes at half the suggested manufacturer’s retail price.

QVC is proud to celebrate the more than $35 million that viewers have helped donate since the event’s inception more than a decade ago affording shoe shoppers to shop for fabulous shoe bargains while supporting an important cause.

QVC extends special thanks to the event’s three “Special Pink Benefactors” — Nine West Footwear Corporation, Brown Shoe Company, Vince Camuto and Camuto Group — which have donated shoes from their brands worth more than $500,000.

The celebrity-studded centerpiece event for this project is the annual “Shoes on Sale” — a night of fashion and fundraising with QVC and FFANY to benefit Breast Cancer Research.  Starlets, socialites and shoe lovers of all kind illuminated New York City’s glamorous Waldorf=Astoria for an unforgettable night of shoe shopping on Thursday, October 13, 2011.

The elegant five-star hotel was taken over by a tsunami of shoes at the storied Shoe Salon which was filled with designer stations such as Jimmy Choo, Gucci, Tory Burch, to Stuart Weitzman, QVC’s own Rachel Zoe and more.

This glamorous gathering marked the 18th annual “Shoes on Sale” event featuring Fashion designers and celebrities who graced the red carpet wearing the hottest shoes of the season, including celebrity fashion designer Nicole Richie, finance expert, TV host and breast cancer spokesperson Suze Orman, E! and Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic and husband Bill Rancic, Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, Real Housewife of New York’s Kelly Bensimon, Miss USA Alyssa Campanella, fashion expert Jill Martin and many more.

Rutherford arrived in Christian Louboutin black pumps and a slinky black DIGS dress. Richie arrived in a Helmut Lang long sleeved black dress showcasing her wild leopard print booties from her exquisite House of Harlow collection.

Richie was beaming with excitement to help the cause and check out some great footwear. “Breast cancer awareness is such an important cause and the way QVC and FFANY have helped the cause through shoe shopping is great!”

Through funds raised from this event in past years, a groundbreaking nationwide network of prominent breast cancer research centers was developed.  Each of the selected facilities concentrates on individual facets of breast cancer research.

The beneficiary hospitals for 2011 are The Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Breast Oncology Program

Also The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and The John Wayne Cancer Institute Breast Center at Saint John’s Health Center.

With more than a million pairs of shoes sold since the first benefit event in October 1994, QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” 2011 is expected to bring the cumulative total proceeds to over $35 million.  Over the past 17 years QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” has sold over 1.5 million pairs of shoes and has donated more than $35 million to breast cancer research.
