*There’s talk that Eddie Murphy may return to his old stomping grounds at “Saturday Night Live.”
According to the New York Post’s Page Six, “a perfect storm is brewing” for the actor to make his first appearance there since leaving the show in 1984 and igniting a feud with creator Lorne Michaels.”
The column reports:
Work is going on behind the scenes for Murphy to pop up on the NBC show when his “Tower Heist” co-star, Ben Stiller, hosts Saturday night, we’re told. Murphy’s hosting the next Oscar telecast, which happens to be produced by “Tower” director Brett Ratner.
Reports of bad blood between Murphy and “SNL” surfaced after cast member David Spade took a shot at him during a career slump. In a mock entertainment news segment, Spade showed a picture of Murphy and joked around the time of his 1989 film “Harlem Nights,” “Look children, a falling star … Quick, make a wish!”
Sources say Murphy was not amused at the time and complained bitterly to Michaels, “demanding an apology, but Michaels sided with his writers, saying he had to give them creative freedom.”
Murphy has never joined any “SNL” reunions or specials, sparking further speculation of a long-standing beef with Michaels. But sources say Ratner eased the way to bring Murphy back and bury the hatchet.
But reps for both Murphy and Ratner said it wasn’t definitely in the cards yet. “There are no plans for Eddie to appear on ‘SNL’ at this time, but perhaps in the future he will make a return,” said a rep for Murphy, which was echoed by Ratner’s rep.
“Eddie rarely does appearances, and nothing is scheduled,” said another source. A different spy close to the show noted, “He hasn’t been on ‘SNL’ for over 25 years, it would be astonishing if he did it.”
Another source denied tension between Murphy and Michaels, claiming, “There was never any hatchet to be buried. Eddie has never had any issues with Lorne.” An “SNL” rep didn’t get back to us.

ummm, there was a fued? ummm, i love “harlem nights” so what the fuc was the white boy saying when said “Look children, a falling star … Quick, make a wish!”…so was that supposed to mean that because murphy was doing a movie with two of our most respected comedians, fox and pryor that he had “fallen”. fuc outta here cracka. that was 3 separate era’s of talent in front of that camera. that was in my opinion one of murphys best comedic roles. eva.
and also one of the most utterly profane…eva.
Remember, sunshine was called such because (as Evangelist Della Reese said) her p**sy was so good that if you throw it in the air it turned to sunshine.
I would imagine that the baby boomers like you would be mortified if a “black” movie was now produced using the same imagery, especially with all the nigga references.
It’s one of my favorite movies but certainly wasn’t the most well-scripted or directed or produce and especially acted.
LMAO! Here we go!
u wouldnt know comedic art of it slapped up upside yo old dumb country corn bread eating azz. bytch boy.
LMAO at that whole thread of posts! Harlem Knights did well, at the time Eddie had just completed Coming to America (which is one of my ALL time fav movies) and it was very successful in the theaters. So at the time, compared to CtA, Harlem Knights didn’t do well. But it became a cult classic among black people. I actually thought the movie was a good movie. And you can’t forget “what you gonna do…shoot me in my pinky toe?” LOL!
…ain’t nuthin’ but great quotes in that movie….I caught Eddie doin’ an interview for his “Biography” and he said that he was kind of ashamed of that movie for a long time until recently when he caught it on cable one night and he thought it was really funny. Harlem Nights is actually one of his better movies…especially among African Americans. He felt ashamed because he got mixed reviews from the critics who are mostly WHITE. When it comes to Harlem Nights, he got nuthin’ to be ashamed of…Black folks got nuthin’, but LOVE for that movie…..
