*The cable network Lifetime is not just developing an update of the 1989 Julia Roberts film “Steel Magnolias,” but it’s changing its racial makeup as well.

Deadline.com is reporting that the original movie, also starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton and Olympia Dukakis in the story of a group of Louisiana women, will be remade with an all-black cast.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are set to produce the TV movie, and are said to be looking for high-caliber black actresses to fill the roles in their contemporary take – still set in Louisiana.

Kenny Leon, whose previous credits include ABC’s “A Raisin In the Sun,” will direct the project.
