*Comedian Roy Wood, Jr. (pictured) has a new role on TBS’s newest pilot, “Sullivan And Son,” starring Steve Byrne.

The name sounds like a play on every Black household’s favorite “Sandford and Son,” but that’s not the point here.

Wood will play the part of Byrne’s character’s best friend. The show takes place in a popular neighborhood bar in a working-class neighborhood in Pittsburgh. Steve Sullivan (Byrne) is the son of the bar’s owner, whose father established the spot.

He decides to break the mold and leave the family business to become a corporate attorney in New York. But he doesn’t forget his roots. He comes back to take over the Sullivan & Son.

Wood became a household favorite on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” where he placed in the top three finalists. Described by Entertainment Weekly as “charismatic crankiness,” Wood most recently appeared on TBS’ “Conan.”
