Tyler Perry’s ‘For Better or Worse’ Premieres Below Standard

*According to a report in Multichannel News, Tyler Perry’s “For Better or Worse” didn’t do so well in the ratings on its debut night last Friday on TBS.

The show averaged 3.4 million viewers – which isn’t bad, but it’s less than Perry’s two previous sitcom debuts. “House of Payne” brought in 5.2 million viewers and “Meet the Browns” opened to 4.2 mil.

If you haven’t seen it, “For Better or Worse” is a spin-off of the “Why Did I Get Married?” flicks. It centers on beauty parlor owner Angela Williams (Tasha Smith) and her complex relationship with her husband Marcus (Michael Jai White) and his business partner.

TBS will give the show at least 10 airings before deciding if it will ask for more episodes.

I didn’t even know this show was on! Why did they move him from Wednesday to Friday nights? That is high school basketball, football, volleyball, new movie, shopping night. Sounds like they are setting Mr. Perry up for failure. Why is it when a minority show is doing well and winning its time slot, the network switches it to a new day/time and then cancels the show for doing pooly?

  3. Not that it matters, but it debuted Thanksgiving weekend……another no-no. If my family and I weren’t playing bones with the TV on, we wouldn’t have known it was on.

    That said……..it sucked. Badly.

Most Friday and Saturday night shows do low numbers. Those numbers for a cable network are actually very high and for a Friday at that. And, I’ll bet that show did better than most shows on the broadcast networks did.

Haven’t watched the recorded episodes yet. I’ll give the show a chance before I pass judgement but, I’m not really a fan of Tasha. She’s basically played the same type of character in her acting careeer and I wish she’d just go back to doing stand up.

I saw the show on Friday and i really liked it. It was funny to me and I thought they did a good job with the charaters. The plot was sort of predictable but it was really nice to see a show that was not a REALITY show. I will continue to watch there may be something there bcause I think it just needs a chance. I hope it continues and hope it gains support from Black America.Come on yall give it a chance!

  6. This is his best show yet.. they better not take this off. House of Payne and Meet the Browns started off kind of slow so people may have thought this wasn’t going to be good.. but this started off great from the beginning. This past week Angela went Waiting to Exhale on Marcus… although I got a feeling she gonna me wrong about this one…or Marcus got setup. Big-ups to Marcus too… Tyler definitely showed a real man in his role, cause some other co-wards would have put they hands on Angela after her behavior

  7. too bad they don’t track overseas for all the military viewers because we got this on our dvr in addition it aires for us on Friday and not Thursday.

  8. actually we get it on Saturday

  9. I don’t like the show so far it sucks big time…..sorry Tyler. WDIGM is my favorite Tyler Perry movie to date so Angela and Marcus roles are pretty much predictable. A comedy show seems odd without a live audience or laugh tracks. I wish Tyler would tone Tasha’s character down a little bit she can be so annoying with all that fussing and yelling she does. I like the scenery though, that house is gorgeous all fancy-schmancy it’s the best part of the show to me. lol *Good luck with this one Tyler*
