carmelita jeter*GARDENA, CA – It’s not everyday someone can say that the world’s fastest woman is from their community. The city Of Gardena, California can make such a claim about Carmelita Jeter.

The Gardena Martin Luther King Day Committee, along with the support of award winning filmmaker Keith O’Derek, sought to find a person that reflects the embodiment of hard work, leadership and would be a great role model to all. Carmelita Jeter is this and more, states O’Derek:

“Rarely will you find someone that is as kind hearted and willing to give her time and energy to help others.”

Ms. Jeter, who’s currently training for the 2012 London Olympics, has also been chosen as Gardena’s MLK Day parade Grand Marshal on January 14, 2012.

For those wishing to show their support for this talented Olympic hopeful, you’re encouraged to attend the parade starting at 10am.

The parade route begins at Marine Avenue & Van Ness Avenue and concludes on the corner 132nd & Van Ness Avenue.

Lots of activities and booths can be enjoyed at the conclusion of the Parade.
