Eddie Long Calls a Time Out: He’s Taking Leave from New Birth

*The quagmire that Bishop Eddie Long finds himself in has gotten so deep he’s decided to step away for awhile and use the time to heal his family, he says.

The pastor of New Birth Missionary Church in Lithonia, Georgia delivered the message to the congregation Sunday morning (12-04-11).

“I’m still your pastor. You’ll still receive my direction,” Long said Sunday. “You’ve given me some weeks to take care of some family business.”

Long’s wife, Vanessa, filed for divorce late Thursday afternoon. She said Friday morning she had changed her mind but by day’s end announced the divorce was on.

Long, his two children with Vanessa Long standing by his side, said Sunday he’s “still here,” adding he’s “stepped up and hasn’t stepped down.”

Bishop Long was sued in a September 2010 lawsuit by former New Birth members Anthony Flagg, Spencer LeGrande, Jamal Parris and Maurice Robinson, who alleged the bishop used his influence, trips, gifts and jobs to coerce them into sexual relationships.

The suit was settled in May after months of mediation.

Well, at least he didn’t say anything too stupid this time like ” I’m gonna fight this thing”.

  2. Cappaucino says:

“I’m still your pastor. You’ll still receive my direction,”? Yea? Well who is directing you? Get off the podium and go find Christ buddy cuz all you have is a twisted perverted perspective on power. You are so hooked on the power and leading you can’t see it’s all falling apart and you are not fit to lead, you have been exposed and IT’S OVER!

  3. It’s good to see these mega churches and false leaders crumble, as Eddie Long would say or whisper “watch this watch this”…..I bet this hypocrite didn’t think his dirty deeds would come back to haunt him, if this is not a good example of “practice what you preach” then I don’t know what is.

  4. A scandal like this in Paterson New Jersey ocurred about 30 years ago and the children of the pastors who were in high school had to transfer to another town because their classmates teased them. Everybody’s condeming Long but no one thinks of the pain and suffering it’s causing his wife and kids. I hope his kids are freshmen at the University of Alaska. I hate to see them teased because they ain’t got nothing to do with this perverted mess. Fanteeking

  5. As the daughter of two Pentecostal preachers – father and mother– I have seen and heard it all. The man or female in the pulpit is human. They make a lot of mistakes but somehow believe they are above the Word. People need to remember that. I have written a book about my experience as the child of a bible thumping , hell and damanation preacher – it is called “Negroes, Flies and Wet Toilet Paper, Confessions of a Preachers Daughter: Losing My Religion and Finding God” by Debra Roberts Torres-Reyes and it is available online at iUniverse.com and at Barnes and Noble book stores. It is about time people start telling the truth about these preachers who have been left unaccountable for their behaviorr.
