*Now this film looks promising. The movie “42,” to be released sometime in the near future, will explore the single most important event in American sports history – the story of Jackie Robinson (played by newcomer Chadwick Boseman), the man who integrated Major League Baseball, and Dodgers GM Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) the man who brought Robinson to the big leagues. We can’t wait. A movie with this pedigree of stars written by the man behind L.A. Confidential will, hopefully, bring the captivating story to a new generation.
So we should be excited for “42” – but what else should we be looking forward to on the cinematic slate next year? Here’s our picks.
SAFE HOUSE (February) – The always-reliable Denzel Washington in an action thriller. What’s not to like? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1599348/)
21 JUMP STREET (March) – A humorous take on the 1990s show. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill take the lead roles – but we’re excited for the Johnny Depp cameo and Ice Cube’s role as their captain. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1232829/)
THE AVENGERS (June) – Sprung right from the fantasies of every comic-book nerd. Just look at the cast – and hopefully, it’ll boast a bigger role for the baddest of them all: Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/)
ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER (June) – Just because of the title. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1611224/)
THE EXPENDABLES 2 (August) – Since there were so many unanswered questions in the first one, we just needed a sequel. Honestly, though, it’s kind of thrilling seeing this remarkable list of fading stars jam-packed into one shoot-’em-up. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1764651/)
