The Winston-Salem State University “Red Sea of Sound” marching band breaks down an intricate dance routine at the 2011 Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase, held at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome

*The 2012 Honda Battle of the Bands will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Jan. 28 as the nation’s largest HBCU music scholarship program with the introduction of a new element — the first-ever fan social media competition that will give HBCU students the chance to Facebook and Twitter their way into a brand new Honda CR-V.

Titled “Band Chatter,” the online social media contest will award three finalists a trip for two to the Invitational Showcase. Registered users of the Honda Battle of the Bands official web site can login, visit the “Band Chatter” page and through Facebook postings, comments, photo uploading and sharing accumulate points for their daily social media activity.

The more users engage with their social media connections about the event and their favorite marching band, the more points they may earn. When the competition period ends on Jan. 6, 2012, the top three die-hard HBCU marching band fans who have generated the most social media points will be given the opportunity to travel to the Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase, Jan. 28 in Atlanta to participate in a second promotion for a chance to win a 2012 Honda CR-V.

Band Chatter” is open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., 18 years of age or older with a valid U.S. driver’s license at the time of participation. For more information on the Invitational Showcase visit www.HondaBattleoftheBands.com, the official online destination and clearinghouse for all HBOB information.

Group and individual tickets for the show are still available, but are moving quickly. They can be purchased at the Georgia Dome Box Office, via www.Ticketmaster.com or www.HondaBattleoftheBands.com  for $10 and $12.
