*Holly Robinson Peete is an icon and spokesperson for Autism Speaks.

Recently, she and her husband, Rodney, attended the inaugural Blue Tie-Blue Jean Ball at the House of Blues in Los Angeles for the organization.

Dedicated to the cause of bringing awareness to autism, Peete is the mother of an autistic son.

“I’m on the national board of Autism Speaks, and every chance I get I like to help our local chapter, so I couldn’t wait to come. I also love Sarah McLachlan,” said Peete, referring to the event’s headline performer. “This is our date night.”

When she’s not busy speaking about autism, she’s out there working. Peete has a recurring role on CBS sitcom, “Mike & Molly” as the love interest of Reno Wilson’s character Carl.

She says having the role is nice because it represents Black romance on a major network.

And despite her being kicked off daytime’s “The Talk,” she’s got other, more important things going on.

“I think everything happens for a reason, and there are a lot of things happening now that wouldn’t be if I was still on The Talk,” she pointed out. “But I do miss it, and I hope to do more daytime TV.”

SIn the meantime, Holly’s doing a clothing line for T.J. Maxx and working on her cameo for “21 Jump Street” the movie.
