Beyonce Fading to White… Skin: Receives Harsh Criticism … Again

beyonce (light-white skin)

*In the words of Yogi Berra, it’s deja vu all over again.

Beyonce is back under the microscope after giving birth to Blue Ivy. A new photo of the superstar is featured on her website and on promotional ads for her latest album that captures Bey with a lighter, brighter skin tone.

At first glance you could mistake her for a lightly airbrushed white skinned Victoria’s Secret model. But then with a closer look you notice it’s actually the singer.

With the blonde hair and beaming camera lights, it’s hard to tell the woman is Black.

Critics all over the net and in the press are questioning the singer’s motives, as her image has slowly began to fade into white. Some say the whitewashing of her images is sending a damaging message to the world, but most importantly to Black youth.

Anthony Blades, founder of race blog, ThisIsYourConscious.com, is confused about Bey’s purpose.

“It’s like, Again? Are we here again? I think in a lot of ways shes culpable because there’s history there,” he writes. “She’s not saying explicitly you have to lighten your skin, but it does carry that inherent message.”

But this isn’t the first time the singer has received such strong criticism from her Black observers.

It seems that her image over the years have progressively become lighter and blonder.

Ugandan-born British writer Yasmin Alibhai-Brown shames the singer for abusing her mass appeal, especially due to the affect it has on young Black kids.

Oh Please Stop with this skin lightening trying to look white nonsense!!! It is a picture from her album photo shot she is portraying a character. the camera used or the lighting in the studio is probably making her look lighter. Beyonce does not look like this in real life. she wears different color weaves from black to red blond, blond and other shades., her skin tone is not dark to begin with. People read too much into pics etc. Beyonce is not the only celeb where their pic was lightened to look white so why single her out. Thie controversy of Bey’s pics are so trivial as to the more important things that are going on in the world. Geesh!!!

Babycakes, the resident Beyonce apologist!!!! The photo doesn’t even look like her it looks like a white woman, it barely looks like her in the face. I do think it sends a negative message to darker skin black little girls because they are the ones that idolize her. That is why it is so good to see beautiful brown skin sistas like Tika Sumpter, Nina Long, Sana Nathan, Gabby Union, etc in magazine and blogs.

No TesticAl, I was meaning it sends a negative message to black girls (period). And it really just buys into the stereotype that the whiter the better. Image is so important and we as black people in power take it for granted. I lived in Africa for two years and black American pop culture is so influential so artists should be mindful of their global impact. I know it might be wishful thinking but still!!!!

Same old recycled garbage day after day, this article is full of poop!

“This isn’t the first time the singer has received such strong criticism from her Black observers…….that’s for sure, black people are Beyonce worst critic!

“Ugandan-born British writer Yasmin Alibhai-Brown shames the singer…. (shames who, Beyonce? I don’t think so) for abusing her mass appeal, especially due to the affect it has on young Black kids…. “.Yeah right I guess all those darker skin entertainers get a pass for wearing hair extension. This should confuse the young black youth as well, because nappy hair don’t swing, bounce and blow in the wind you know like a “white girl hair.”.. (extreme sarcasm)

Why don’t this know-it all do a survey with young black kids and ask them what’s more important to them, their future and getting a good education or some fancy pants ….Is this story really about Beyonce or light skin vs dark skin again? Like those with deep rich darker complexion don’t come out a shade or two lighter when professionally photograph, I should know. LOL

I highly doubt if she is using any bleaching products. It’s just a case of the photography lighting. Cmon give this chica a break.

Beyonce is going to do whatever she wants to do. Yes, she has been getting lighter over they years, that is nothing new. If she isn’t bleaching then I wonder why in her earlier career she was darker and now that she’s arrived…her natural skin tone is ok. I was sort of bothered that the magazine choose her and darkened her to make her the face of Africa with Alec Welk and other actual supermodels who could have done the job. It seemed to make the statement that it was acceptable for her to play th role of a dark skinned person but not be it. That’s not really her fault. Beyonce is doing what she needs to do, cant be mad at that.
