*(Via Media Bistro) – News spread quickly Saturday evening that former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno had died. Except, he hadn’t. Here is an account of how it happened.
TheWrap.com: CBS Sports apologized for reporting Saturday that Paterno had died, saying it had fallen “well short” of its own journalistic standards.
Paterno’s family had quickly denied the report, but not before it was tweeted or reported by a slew of other media outlets, all of which raced to update their initial reports after the denial.
Onward State: In a release made by his family to The Associated Press Sunday morning, Joe Paterno’s death was confirmed. He was 85.
Associated Press: Paterno family: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Joe Paterno passed away earlier today. His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled.”
